Born in Mawlamyine, Mon State, Myanmar on 01 September, 1971, Sayadaw is the 8th of 9 children of U Thar Tun & Daw May Sein. His birth name is Maung Han Win Aung.
After graduating with a B. Sc. In Zoology at the Yangon University, he ran his own business in Mawlamyine for 5 years from 1994. It was a computer training center. And with his multiple talents & skills and youthful energy, he also conducted classes for English & Thai languages.
However, gnawed by a deep, underlying sense of urgency, he gave up the business. So, on 10 November, 1999 he renounced and ordained as a bhikkhu at Pa Auk Mawlamyine. His preceptor is the Most Venerable Pa Auk Sayadaw with whom he practised diligently. He also practised under the tutelage of Sayadaw U Cittara & Sayadaw U Sīla.
